Vanguard Reed Quintet
In this concert, the audience will experience contemporary classical chamber music performed by the oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon. The concert opens with a theatrical overture by Italian Baroque composer Pietro Antonio Locatelli. Following that, we present two works by Peruvian-American composer Daniel Cueto: Amaru, a musical portrait of an Incan mythological figure; and Momentos Peruanos, a collection inspired by traditional Peruvian dances. We close with Jeff Scott's Homage to Paradise Valley, a tribute to a historically Black and musically rich neighborhood in Detroit. Featuring guest bassoonist Daniel Zaldana.
